we put the deserted in our childhood red wagon
now it's gone- our older souls broke it
we found the lost ones- remember we were scared to pick them up
never knew if we could be gentle enough
know our kid hands used to be
fear now they'd get crushed
we used to play in the grass and the leaves
never concerned about keeping things clean
we were the free ones- always swaying with the wind
the desires of our hearts never abandoned
now seems we're frequently lost
are we too easily beckoned
it wants to go back to see how it's grown
all the places my heart calls home
take me to maple, the river, your arms,
drive me down those dirt roads
sing me a song over dogs as they bark
one more time show me the old panorama
the woods, the trails, the fields and the brick
take me back to Butler, Alabama.
call me sugar in a house full of smoke
hand me a cold glass bottle of coke
